Originally from Brest, Josée Le Roux has led many lives: decorator, mechanical artist in advertising, cartoon artist... In Ouessant, an experience renovating and building dry stone walls revealed her artistic talent. She was struck by these little walls of stone that carve up the countryside. The repetition of these stable, artificial constructions gives rhythm to the landscape. Overhead, the clouds, changing and natural, give rhythm to the skies. These rhythms, this opposition and harmony, were her original inspiration. The emotion conveyed in her first works has remained intact: fresh and limpid. She has since discovered houses and the sea... "Warning, wet paint! Josée Le Roux painting is simple, stark and figurative, with a strong suggestion of poetry. Faced with the turbulence of Ouessant, she concentrates on the subtle relationship between the moving skies and the land, encircled by a series of little walls. The impression of instability is deliberate but never confuses the view. A peaceful atmosphere seems to emanate from these apparently shaky houses, in spite of the expected winds. Using little pieces of paper sketched with the design, she uses her great power of distraction to recompose the subject according to her state of mind. She masters her specific technique perfectly. The palette of colours is limited but the range of shades is broad. Transparency is never altered. Her delicate touch expresses the wildness of these places. Meticulous work, faultless finish… these little formats are surrounded by colour, painted on the wood of the painting. " Christian BELLUARD
