Trained initially as a painter, Raphaëlle Daouphars has been working with glass since 1998. She takes her inspiration from the technique of "Suwer painting". She engraves and paints glass on the reverse side from where it will be seen to create paintings ranging from gems to architectural signs.
Raphaëlle Daouphars studied at the Beaux-Arts Institute in Clermont-Ferrand and at the school of glass-making of Vannes le Châtel (CERFAV - European Centre for Research and Training in Glass Making)
She explores faces in the way one would explore landscapes. Constantly on the look-out for an expression, a trait, a feeling, she tries to inhabit these faces.
The landscapes, midway between figurative and abstract art, camouflage themselves behind colours and allow themselves to be decorated with makeup and with tricks of the light.
