« Nature and its unlimited richness is for me a continuous source of inspiration.
After having worked with pastels & watercolours, I felt the need to progress to a different medium. Shapes become volumes in my hands. What could be more natural than to seize a ball of soft clay?

Modelling is the pleasure of fitting pieces together according to the inspiration of the moment. I began by moulding bowls of different shapes & sizes. More recently I have sought to shape more lovely forms intuitively with my fingers.

The apple came spontaneously into my vocabulary, common and modest but charged with the stigma of the forbidden fruit, the apple is voluptuous in its generous curves over which fingers slip with delight.
Growing in my hands the apples are marked by gentle strokes on the smooth surfaces and violent bites of feeling.

The colours of the oxides and the glazes take me back to watercolours. Always applied by paintbrush the effect explores different ranges of greens and monochrome.
I want the apple to appear full of feeling, glow & softness, light in transparency and heavy in shape.

Raku proves ideal for my research of spontaneous beauty.
The firing is fast cracks appear on the surface due to the thermal shock adding to the textured effect. Furthermore the fuming in pine needles and sawdust extends the colour pallet.
The rigour of the technique meets the poetic imagination of improvisation.
Raku means "Joy and Happiness"; I seek to express such feelings through this medium.
