Jean-Christophe HUMBERT tells the story of mankind: the beginning, maternity, birth, relationships, family. His populated world, at the crossroads of many paths, is filled with childhood memories: dictionary illustrations of plants, prehistoric animal skeletons, insects, fossils, etc.
His parents collected popular art, providing him with an environment packed with materials, tools, toys and sculptures each with a story, a life, a mystery… countless sources of dreams for a child.
He soon abandoned his canvas to assemble the materials together: wooden slabs, staves, branches, papers… all collected around his home in the country.
By including elements other than paint, his work may become a fetish object, soaking up fears and concerns to conjure up a certain serenity.
