Gilles Baise starts by planting his populations of woods and forests; wild and free, made of branching encounters. Just as Michelangelo knew there was a pieta inside the white marble in Carrara, Gilles Baise knows that there is a crocodile, a cat, a goat or something else hidden among the branches, reeds or roots. Sometimes starting from an existing shape, sometimes sculpting it, sometimes combining the two Imagination is everywhere, enhanced by colours, markets and other materials (feathers, cloth, raffia, etc.), creating something that falls between sophistication and raw state. This little population comes to life at night, dancing, posing, speaking and casting shadows that play on the walls and floors. "The art of making almost anything from almost nothing. And that is something."
